Anemic children causes and predisposition

Monday, the 7th of November 2011
Almost 10% of the children below two years old have deficiency in iron. This deficiency means less healthy red blood cells, which means less oxygen for the nervous system.

During the first years of development it is vital  the brain is properly irrigated.

Children are prone to iron deficiency due to fast development of body which consumes vital resources.

The following categories are more exposed to anemia:
  • children below 1 year that drink cow's milk;
  • breast-fed babies below 6 months that don't take fortified iron cereals;
  • formula-fed babies without iron forified formulae;
  • children below 5 years old drinking more than 3/4 of litre of cow's milk daily.
Reasons for iron anemia are two: intake, and/or consumption. Blood loss can affect the iron status, also food that has low iron contribution.
